The first beach of Xerokambos (to the west) is the harbor of Amatos; a natural enclosed harbor with calm water. The remote beach is pebbly and is ideal for spearfishing. There are a few tamarisk trees and a ramp for launching boats. The road leading to the harbor from the settlement of Xerokambos is an accessible dirt road.

Nestled in the southeastern part of Crete, Xerokambos is an arid yet eerie landscape of stark rocks, steep mountains and few olive groves. It's one of the most remote regions of the island and can be accessed via the road linking Sitia (and Ierapetra) to Ziros or the road from Zakros.
